Skywarn Training

Last Thursday night, was the annual skywarn training, that is put on by the National Weather Service (nws). This training is to train local residents along with the emergency services and the amateur radio community, to become trained spotter for the NWS. The skywarn service was put into place after one of the worst tornado outbreaks in the U.S. on palm Sunday April 11 1965. (http://www.crh.noaa.gov/ind/april111965.htm )

It was really nice to see that the meeting was a full house with a lot of first timers, and that so many people have an interest in learning about severe weather. Along with helping the communities here in Kent county. I know I came away from the meeting with a lot more information this year, than I have in years past.

Another Year Older

Saturday was that time of year to increase the age by another digit. Saturday was a very good day, the Weather was very nice, the sun was shining bright and the temp was up into the mid 40s.

Spent the day with two special people, just hanging out in downtown Grand Rapids. Visited the local museum for a display of Grossology " The Impolite Science of the Human Body" also saw a few of the local fisherman on the Grand River, fishing for the spring run of steelhead.

Then it was off to have homemade pizza and of course the famous Birthday cake, The perfect end to a great day.
